Smoke Alarms

Did you know that York Area United Fire & Rescue provides smoke alarms free of charge to our residents?  We recommend that you have at LEAST one smoke alarm on every level of your home, and we prefer that there be a detector in each bedroom.

Most smoke alarms have a life expectance of 10 years.  After that, they don’t work at their peak level and may not provide the level of protection you expect.  We recommend replacing them every 10 years, regardless of whether they still go off when you burn the toast!

Smoke alarms are the cheapest insurance policy you can have in order to protect yourself and your family in the event of a fire in your home.  However – only WORKING smoke alarms save lives!

Remember to change your batteries when you change the time on your clocks for daylight savings.  It’s also recommended that you test your smoke alarms once a month.

Please contact us if you need a smoke alarm.

To insure proper installation and proper placement, we now Require our firefighters to install requested smoke detectors. If you just need help installing or testing a smoke alarm you already have, please give us a call at 717-718-2383 and we’d be glad to help!
